About Selkirk Insurance Services

Having grown up in Sandpoint with both of my parents in the insurance industry, I learned to speak the language at a young age. Throughout high school, I helped with marketing and other odd jobs at my mom’s insurance agency. At the age of 23, I became a licensed agent and started working remotely, while going to college in Bend, Oregon, for my dad’s agency – at what was then The Insurance Shop USA. Several years later in 2012, I moved back to Sandpoint to help run our growing business.

From the outset of my career in insurance, two principles were deeply ingrained in me: always provide the best possible customer service and write policies correctly or not at all. These values have been instrumental in building strong relationships with both our clients and the companies we work with. I pride myself on maintaining a high level of customer service, which has become a cornerstone in sustaining long-term relationships with our clients.

My focus on writing policies correctly has led to the creation of very strong relationships with the companies we work with. Underwriters know that when I present them with complicated risks, they are being accurately and openly represented. This trust has given me the ability to find solutions for challenging risks where others might not be able to. This has also led to multiple awards and being chosen as one of a select few agents nationwide to serve on the Safeco Advisory Council. As part of the Advisory Council, I work with Safeco to help create solutions that improve the customer and agent experience.

Outside of work, I love spending time outdoors with my family. I’m an avid skier and mountain biker and enjoy spending time on the water, snowmobiling and backpacking.

Having enjoyed a 30 plus year career in the insurance industry, I have stepped away from everyday production to focus on the back-office operations of our brokerage. With my wife Janni and son Travis involved in the business, we have always been and will always be a locally owned, customer focused insurance company with the goal of providing the best possible customer service to our valued clients. As we grow into the future, my plans outside the business are to continue riding a mountain bike, travel the world, and spend as much time with our kids and grandkids as possible.

I am absolutely blessed to have the opportunity to raise my children and enjoy a career, in the community I feel so passionately about. It is hard to argue the beauty and charm that make Sandpoint, Idaho such a special place. For me however, it goes beyond the obvious, Sandpoint represents my family and the community that influenced who I am today. I was born and raised in Sandpoint and feel very fortunate to still call this beautiful place, home.

After graduating from Sandpoint High School, I began my pursuit of higher education at Boise State University. After completing my first two years at BSU, I decided to transfer closer to home and attend Eastern Washington University, where I graduated in June of 2011 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management. In January of 2012, I began my career as a Broker with the Selkirk Insurance Services and I have never looked back! This career, the people I work with have been an absolute blessing. Since then, time has absolutely flown by. I have two beautiful children (full of sugar and spice) Harper Joseph and Gracie Lee. They are what life is all about! When I am not at work or spending time with my family, you will most likely find me on the golf course or coaching a sports team.

Growing up in a small town, you learn very quickly about reputation and the value it holds. It is my hope to build genuine and lasting relationships with all my clients, and to ensure I am representing them in the best way possible. I am dedicated and work hard to provide them with exceptional service.

Alisa spent her younger years as the daughter of a US Air Force member. She has lived in many states and a couple foreign countries before moving to Idaho in the late 1970. She attended schools in our area, eventually graduating from High School in Spokane. After High School graduation she joined the US Air Force a short stint. In 1992 she and her family moved to the Oregon Coast where she started in the insurance business. Extended family brought her to Sandpoint in the 90’s and she worked in our insurance office for several years prior to working for 10 years at the Bonner County DMV. We were very excited to have Alisa rejoin our firm in 2012.  Alisa will likely be the person answering the phone when you call us or to greet you when you enter our office.

Tracy moved to the Sandpoint area in 2003 and started working with Janni at her former insurance agency in 2005. She transitioned to the Selkirk Insurance Services when Janni closed that business in 2016. If you have ever worked with Tracy, you know that she provides the best possible customer service throughout every transaction.

When Tracy is not working, she enjoys spending time with her family, including her three children and two grandsons. They enjoy going on hikes and spending time at local beaches.

I graduated from Cheney High School in 1978 then attended Washington State University and Eastern Washington University. I started working in insurance with Randy in 1996 when we started Smith Financial Services. After 20 years, I closed that office and joined Selkirk Insurance Services to work again with Randy and Travis.

I have always strived to provide the best customer service possible while always making sure my clients are properly protected. Over twenty years’ experience in the insurance industry has taught me that cutting corners doesn’t benefit anybody.

When not working, I enjoy spending time with family (especially my three grandchildren), hiking, gardening, traveling, reading and cooking.
